Generously Sharing Resources

Generated with Bing Image Creator AI, 21 September 2024

It all started with some extra time after one of our first virtual meetings. That day, few people wanted to leave the call and during the following discussion generous book-lovers offered to do look-ups in their treasured volumes. Before we ended, someone suggested meeting again specifically to offer and ask for lookups in various books already on our shelves.

A search of our Society@skcgs.groups.io finds the first message posted about offered books: Marilyn Schunke's Book. Two great things grew out of this collaboration—our monthly Genealogy Chat, and our Books: Pleasure, Learning, Lookups wiki page. If you have books to share, please add to that page! and feel free to ask for lookups as well. Don't forget that we have two public book collections too. Most of our books are shelved at Auburn KCLS Library at 1102 Auburn Way South, Auburn, Washington and a smaller one is housed at the Kent FamilySearch Center, 12817 SE 256th Street, Kent, Washington.

Drop By and Chat!

If you would like to see what we've discussed over the years in the Chat, there are links to all the meeting notes on the wiki page. Just search (Control+F) for chat and click the links to see the posts. It is amazing what wide-ranging topics have been discussed over the years. "Meet up and chat about genealogy subjects and topics. We have no agenda; we just like one another!" We described the Chat that way in the beginning, and it still all remains true. 💖

Now we have a new Zoom tool called AI Companion which actually summarizes the conversation based on the transcript that Zoom creates. Since that has come online, we've been including the summary at the end of the Zoom chat notes sent out after each meeting.

Collaborate

We're always looking for new ways to collaborate with one another. There are other riches in our groups and website, such as our shared Ancestry.com trees

🌳 Black-Heritage-Franklin discussed here: https://skcgs.groups.io/g/Black-Heritage-Franklin

🌳 "FamiliesOfNewcastleCemetery" posted in our new Wikitree User Group: https://skcgs.groups.io/g/Wikitree-SIG

🌳 Comet Lodge Cemetery, Seattle, King, WA featured here: Help Save This Abused and Neglected Cemetery There is some discussion

Just ask if you would like to research in, edit and add to any of these shared trees.

⏺ Shared Recordings

Have you noticed that some of our speakers have asked that their talks remain online for all to view?

Poke around and explore! You never know what you might find.
