The Unusual Christmas Gift

  Courtesy Pixabay Pandemic It was October 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. The whole country was asked to social distance, wash our hands, wear masks and stay home. Since we were staying home we were all trying to keep busy and were doing cleaning, filing, sorting, etc.  Cleaning the garage This day in October I decided to clean out the garage, something I have needed to do for a long time. On a top shelf way in the back, I found a box marked "old dolls."  I remembered this box is where my old dolls were and the china heads for dolls. I opened the box and yes, there were the old china dolls, but there was more than dolls.  Hidden treasures In the bottom of the box were a lot of my oldest daughter’s baby clothes. I took them all out of the box and into the house, decided to wash them as they were all wrinkled. After washing them and they all looked so much better, I got to thinking, "Do I have any pictures of her in any of these clothes?"  Red Polka Dot Dress

Hahn Laird The year was 1944 and our country was in the middle of World War II.  I was eight years old and lived in Denver, Colorado with my mother, father, sister and two brothers.  I remember the day my father went in to sign up for the Army.  My mother cried all day until he got home and she found out he was 4F.  They wouldn’t take him into the service because he had a heart murmur.  In those days a heart murmur was very serious.  They really wanted him in the Army because he was a doctor. Since my father couldn’t serve his country in the Army, he bought a Doctor’s practice in Casper, Wyoming.  Many things had to be taken care of in preparation for the move.  To purchase gas there were gas stamps, so they had to save up enough gas stamps to make the trip.  The move could only take one day while pulling a trailer behind the car with all of our belongings.  Many household items had to be sold; and yes, my desk had to be sold.  I loved that desk and cried when so

What is the DAR?

By Winona I Laird This is the question I’m always asked when I say, I have a DAR meeting today, or I am a member of the DAR, or the DAR will be marching in the Veterans Day Parade.  To answer the question. What is the DAR? It’s Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a lineage society that is a non-profit, 501 (C )  (3)  charitable organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism. Any woman 18 years or older-regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background-who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded on October 11, 1890, with the mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. The objectives of the Daughters of the American Revolution are: Historical – to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence.
