Lauren Hubbard Richardson 1961-2023

In Memory of Lauren Hubbard Richardson 1961-2023

President of South King County Genealogical Society June 2004 - May 2005

Her family posted an obituary:

Lauren Hubbard Richardson, 62, of Seneca, SC passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Seneca and has lived throughout the United States with her family, as far as Anchorage, Alaska. Yet she always managed to return home to South Carolina.

Lauren served as President and CEO of Death Valley Towing for the past 6 years. Her true passion was serving her community and helping people through difficult times. She served as Executive Director for Our Daily Rest in Seneca for 7 years and continued to serve on the Board of Directors until her passing. She loved giving back to the community through her church, St. Mark UMC, and her work. She loved music, having served in many church choirs throughout her life, and instilled the same love of music into her children. She enjoyed the creativity of sewing, loved her dogs, and enjoyed cooking. Lauren loved her family with all of her heart and was exceedingly proud of her children.

She was the daughter of John Marion Hubbard and Shirley Underwood Hubbard.

Lauren served SKCGS for one year as president. Our Member at Large, MaryLynn Strickland, remembers, "As soon as that election [of a new Vice President, Cathi Vannice] happened, Lauren announced her resignation.  With a family that included three school age children, the employment opportunity that necessitated moving to Tennessee could not be passed up.  Added bonus was the opportunity to move closer to their South Carolina families and roots.

"Lauren brought her energy, experience, and professionalism to the society in general and presidency in particular.  She was my mentor when I joined, sharing not only how to be a genealogist but how to be a society member.  I hope I have faithfully shared her attitude for the good of the organization.  She did all this while involved in the school and extracurricular activities of her three children."

Her husband asked that "In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, which, in honor of Lauren, the SKCGS Board has done.

We hope that our small tribute will bring some measure of comfort to her family, and aid in research to cure this terrible disease, which took her life.

- SKCGS President Valorie Zimmerman
