South King County Genealogical Society Meeting of the Board
6 November 2018
The meeting of the South King County Genealogical Society’s Board of Directors was held on 6 November 2018.
Minutes from the October Board meeting and the October General Membership meeting were approved. Financial statements were submitted by the Treasurer.
Committees submitting reports included Blog, Bylaws, Circulating Library, Library Volunteers, Library GenHelp Desk, Membership, Programs, Publicity and Website.
Interest Groups submitting reports included Family Tree Maker, Research and Technology User’s Group.
Each Board member was asked to bring an idea about how to improve our membership and membership participation. Ideas included:
Barbara Mattoon found a copy of the original Saar Cemetery Plot map at the United Methodist Church on SE 248th St. in Kent, the owners of the Saar Pioneer Cemetery and will have it digitized as it’s very fragile.

- Contact individually the visitors to the GenHelp Desk when you are staffing.
- Keep the website up to date.
- Sending the found stuff to the person who requested it.
- Report our events to other societies.
- Post information on the Bulletin Board at the Family History Centers.
- Emails to members about meetings.
- Ask: How did you hear about us, on sign in sheets, membership applications, etc.
- Networking time at meetings.
- Interesting topics, variety of topics based on surveys: What do members want to hear?
- Annual Field Trip.
- Weblinks, etc. Capture them! Send out after meeting.
- Offer assistance with research.
- Program Idea: German (or other) Christmas Traditions
- Constant communication with members.
- Make sure signs are up at the Collection in Auburn that the books came from and are maintained by SKCGS.
- Make sure flyers are up to date at Senior Center, Black Diamond Library, Black Diamond Museum and Auburn Library.
- Talk to new faces at meeting.
- Talk up our interest in genealogy to friends, connections in other groups.
- Invite people to attend, using specific meeting topics as a draw.
- GPS: Genealogical Problem Solutions: Submit a form, describe problem, how can they help. On a Saturday. Done once a month, one person per meeting, one problem per month, create tree on Ancestry if needed.
- Who do you ask? Where is your expertise? Members’ resources.
- Sign on the door about us and meetings at Family History Center, Kent and others.
- Ditto at Wesley Lea Hill. It’s in their newsletter, but more may be needed for their visitors!
- Talk to people where you live.
- Post to our own Facebook page.
